Il 3 settembre 1964, alle 21:30 circa, due uomini armati, facenti parte di un’organizzazione separatista sudtirolese, si appostano nei pressi della Stazione dei Carabinieri di Selva dei Molini, in provincia di Bolzano. Il Carabiniere Vittorio Tiralongo esce per una boccata d’aria dalla caserma. E’ solo, ben visibile. Gli sparano con un fucile di precisione da un balcone della casa vicina. Si sono appostati alla finestra di una casa abitata e hanno preso la mira con calma. Il botto lo hanno sentito tutti. C’è stato un rimbombo per tutta la valle. E allora non c’erano tv o telefonini a distrarre. Eppure nessuno vede e sente nulla. Lasciato a terra il carabiniere agonizzante, i due terroristi fuggono verso il confine austriaco. Le indagini permetteranno di appurare che l’arma utilizzata era una carabina Mauser calibro 7,62, rinvenuta tre anni dopo insieme a un Moschetto Automatico Beretta (M.A.B.).
Questo attentato rientra tra quelli attribuiti ai “4 bravi ragazzi della Valle Aurina”:
Siegfried Steger, Sepp Forer, Erich Oberleitner, Heinrich Oberlechner.

On 3 September 1964, at approximately 9.30pm, two armed men, part of a South Tyrolean separatist organization, were stationed near the Carabinieri station in Selva dei Molini, in the province of Bolzano. Carabiniere Vittorio Tiralongo leaves the barracks for a breath of fresh air. It is alone, clearly visible. They shoot him with a sniper rifle from a balcony of the nearby house. They positioned themselves at the window of an inhabited house and calmly took aim. Everyone heard the bang. There was a rumble throughout the valley. And then there were no TVs or cell phones to distract. Yet no one sees or hears anything. Leaving the dying policeman on the ground, the two terrorists flee towards the Austrian border. The investigations will make it possible to ascertain that the weapon used was a 7.62 caliber Mauser carbine, found three years later together with a Beretta Automatic Musket (M.A.B.).
