A far precipitare la situazione, a fine ottobre, è la richiesta di rinvio a giudizio di Lojacono (latitante) e Panzieri (detenuto) per l’omicidio Mantakas. Un commando delle Formazioni comuniste armate, il gruppo di ex militanti di Potere operaio che qualche mese dopo andranno a fondare la colonna romana delle Brigate Rosse, decide l’immediata ritorsione contro la sezione missina del quartiere Prenestino, in quanto il segretario, il leader di Lotta popolare Luigi D’Addio. è uno dei testi di accusa nel processo.
Il 29 ottobre 1975, nel quartiere Prenestino a Roma, due giovani si accingono ad entrare nella sede del MS. Il conducente rimane al posto di guida con il motore acceso, mentre gli altri due uomini scendono dalla vettura imbracciando fucili a canne mozze, con cui colpiscono Zicchieri alla fossa iliaca e alla regione glutea e Luchetti alle gambe e alle mani. Subito dopo l’aggressione, i due assassini scappano in auto.
Anni dopo i pentiti accuseranno del delitto Germano Maccari, ma il braccio destro di Valerio Morucci, che ancora non era stato individuato come il “quarto uomo” nella prigione del popolo di via Montalcini dove era sequestrato Aldo Moro, se la cava con un’insufficienza di prove.
